Please join in an effort to support the important endeavor of making college scholarships available to Swain County High School students who are seeking a career in the teaching field.

 

A fundraising effort will take place this summer to create a scholarship through the Swain County Public Schools Foundation in memory of Phyllis Claxton.  Mrs. Claxton was a physical education teacher at Swain High School for 33 years.  She gave her life to education and was noted for her involvement and support of many extra-curricular activities.  This scholarship will be given each year to Swain High students who want to pursue a degree in education.

 

In July 2008, one of Mrs. Claxton’s sons, Steve, will raise funds and awareness for this special scholarship by riding across America on bicycle.  The journey will begin in Astoria, Oregon and will end in Bryson City, NC – approximately 3,800 miles later.

 

You can help support this effort by pledging your contribution to this scholarship fund.  You may contribute for each mile completed or just make a flat contribution in Mrs. Claxton’s name to the Swain County Public Schools Foundation.
